Official statement of the Ukrainian Red Cross on "green corridors" and humanitarian aid

In some cases, the Red Cross Society of Ukraine assists local and state authorities in coordinating the evacuation of civilians, but the Red Cross Society does not have an independent mandate for such actions.

The International Committee of the Red Cross, with the capacity and appropriate contacts with all parties to the conflict, deals with evacuation corridors. For its part, the International Committee of the Red Cross is in contact with all parties to remind them of their obligations under international humanitarian law and to ensure that humanitarian organizations are able to protect victims of conflict and respond to humanitarian needs.

The parties to the armed conflict must urgently promote humanitarian work, namely to provide safe access to aid and allow the safe and free evacuation of civilians.

Also, the International Committee of the Red Cross is ready to act as a neutral mediator and provide support within its capabilities. In turn, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, as a completely neutral humanitarian organization, also emphasizes the need for bilateral agreement between the parties of the armed conflict to provide humanitarian aid and transport civilians through the “green corridors”.
